Navigating the journey from grassroots to professional cricket can feel overwhelming. To make it easier, we’ve outlined the key stages and opportunities within the cricketing pathway for Lindfield Cricket players.
Grassroots Cricket: Building the Foundation
1. LINDFIELD U7 SKILLS CLINIC

Designed for boys and girls aged 7 and younger, this introductory program focuses on basic skills within fun, game-based activities. Sessions include activities that teach the fundamentals of batting, bowling, and fielding.
2. WOOLWORTHS CRICKET BLAST

For children aged 10 and younger, this program offers a bridge between the Skills Clinic and more competitive junior cricket formats. Modified games are played on a pitch over 14 metres, with 6 players per side and a 1.5 hour duration.
2. COMMUNITY CRICKET

Stage 1 and Stage 2 Junior Cricket: Young players progress through age-group competitions, representing their local clubs in structured formats. Stage 1 junior cricket sees 7 player teams compete in T20 fixtures, while Stage 2 junior cricket sees 9 player teams compete in T20 or 30 over fixtures.

Stage 3 Junior Cricket: This stage is the first that follows the traditional cricketing rules, with 9 OR 11 player teams competing in formats ranging from T20 to 32 over fixtures. Teams are submitted in synthetic and turf competitions.

Senior Cricket: Lindfield Cricket plays in the Sydney Shires competition. Grades 1 – 5, U24s and Master, Classics, Vintage teams (50s, 60s & 70s). Opportunities may be available to play within our Shires teams for talented junior players (min 15 y.o).
Pathway Cricket: Developing Talent
1. REPRESENTATIVE CRICKET

NSW Youth Championships: Talented players from club cricket are selected to represent their associations in these yearly competitions. NSW Youth Championship tournaments are run for age groups between U12 and U15, with separate competitions run for Metropolitan and Country sides.
- NSJCA Rep Trials for U12 – U15 Boys generally occur around February/March
- NSJCA Rep Trials for U13 & U15 Girls generally occur around October

Male NSW Metro Youth Championships
- U12 Cawsey Shield & Foster Shield – 40 overs, Sundays, October - November
- U13 Gee Shield & Creak Shield – 40 overs, Sundays, October - November
- U14 Moore Shield – 50 overs, Sundays, October - November
- U15 Weblin Shield – 50 overs, Sundays, October - November
Female NSW Metro Youth Championships
- U13 Mollie Dive Shield - 30 Overs, Sundays, December - March
- U15 Margaret Peden Shield - 50 Overs, Sundays, December - March

Inter District Cricket Association: The IDCA runs secondary representative competitions for players in the U11, U14 and U15 age groups, particularly for players that were not selected for NSW Youth Championship teams.
- NSJCA Trials for U11 & U14 IDCA development teams occur around September/October

Male Independent Cricket Association (IDCA) / President Cup - Development Teams
- U11 Colin Cooper Cup – 40 overs, Sundays, December to February
- U14 Anthony Neale Cup – 50 overs, Sundays, December to February
2. NSW ACADEMY PROGRAMS

State Challenge and Academy Programs: Promising young cricketers are identified and invited to play in State Challenge competitions, and NSW Academy squads, where they receive high-quality coaching, physical training, and match experience.
Premier Cricket and Beyond: Stepping Up to Senior Competitions
1. NSW PREMIER CRICKET

AW Green Shield (Male): AW Green Shield is an U16 competition that is the introductory competition for NSW Premier Cricket clubs. This competition forms a pathway to higher grade teams at these clubs, as well as NSW U17 selection.
Trials are generally held around February/March for the season ahead (each club varies).

Brewers Shield (Female): The Brewer Shield competition is the premier female U18 competition in Australia and provides an excellent transition for juniors into grade cricket. This competition forms a pathway to higher grade teams at these clubs.

Premier Cricket Clubs: The NSW Premier Cricket competition, also known as Sydney Grade Cricket, is the premier club competition in the state. It consists of multiple grades, allowing players to progress through the ranks based on their performance.
2. ELITE CRICKET

NSW Blues and Breakers: The NSW Blues and Breakers represent the state in domestic first-class and one-day competitions for males and females respectively.

BBL and WBBL: The Sydney Sixers and Sydney Thunder compete in Australia’s premier T20 competition for males and females respectively.
