PRIVATE SCHOOL PLAYERS

Can my child play club cricket as well as private school sport?

FAQ: My child is currently attending or will move to a private school next year. Which competition is suitable?

U9/10: This is the most difficult age group as the NSJCA does not have a suitable competition for this group. The U9/10 competitions play at 8.00am and 10.30am on Saturday mornings. In previous years we have found that these players have limited opportunity to play club games.

It is therefore difficult to accommodate all 'play with friend' requests at this age group because if we put all the school friends in a team together, Managers are left to find fill in players most weeks. We welcome the U9/10 private school boys but we need to spread them across teams.

U11: We encourage these players to play in the U11 T20 Sat PM (Stage 2) competition. This allows the players to fulfil their school commitments in the mornings and then play club cricket in the afternoon. Depending on interest there may also be a Sunday morning U11 20 or 30 over competition.

U12: We encourage these players to play in the U12 T20 Sat PM (Stage 2) competition. This allows the players to fulfil their school commitments in the mornings and then play club cricket in the afternoon. Depending on interest there may also be a Sunday morning U12 20 or 30 over competition.

U13: All U13 teams play on Sunday mornings, 20 or 30 over competitions.

If the boys want to play cricket for their CAS or GPS school they will find the start times vary throughout a Saturday and often their matches are not known until mid-week. This makes it difficult to consistently play Sat PM club cricket. We recommend these players join a Sun AM team.

Another option is to select another school sport that is guaranteed to be played on Saturday mornings which will allow for a 1pm or 3.30pm start for club cricket. Tennis and basketball are often good choices.
